Southern Indiana (April 16, 2025) – More than $550 million spent by visitors in 2023 created jobs, tax revenue and a positive economic ripple effect for Indiana’s Clark and Floyd counties. Visitor spending in the two Southern Indiana counties climbed for the third year in a row in 2023.

River Ridge Economic Impact on Southern Indiana Surpasses $3 Billion in 2024

Annual Analysis Shows $138.2 Million in New Private Investment, Providing Support for over 19,400 Jobs in the Region
Jeffersonville, IN (April 14, 2025) – The River Ridge Development Authority (RRDA) released its economic analysis for 2024, showcasing another landmark year of growth, infrastructure improvements, and community impact. River Ridge Commerce Center continues to serve as an economic engine for Southern Indiana, generating more than $3.04 billion in economic impact and supporting 19,471 regional jobs.
 
“Our commitment to developing River Ridge is ultimately about driving meaningful growth and benefiting Southern Indiana residents,” said Dr. Treva Hodges, Mayor of Charlestown and President of the RRDA Board of Directors. “The investments we make in infrastructure, job creation, and business recruitment are shaping the future of our communities.”
 
One of the more significant developments in 2024 was Meta’s acquisition of a portion of River Ridge’s mega site in the Jeffersonville part of the Commerce Center, spanning over 600 acres. Meta announced an initial investment of $800 million to establish a cutting-edge data center, marking a transformative step in the region’s economic growth. The facility is expected to create approximately 100 permanent operational jobs at an average wage of $36.00 an hour, while continuously generating approximately 1,250 construction jobs throughout its development.
 
River Ridge also remains committed to modernizing infrastructure. In 2024 alone, RRDA invested $6.7 million in new roads and another $8.9 million in improved utilities, ensuring the Commerce Center remains a competitive destination for businesses of all sizes.
 
“These infrastructure improvements are a foundation for future investment,” said Jerry Acy, River Ridge Executive Director. “By prioritizing long-term development, we are ensuring that River Ridge continues to attract world-class companies and high-quality jobs.”
 
Communications Test Design Inc., CTDI, a global leader in engineering, repair, and logistics, expanded its operations into a new facility at the north end of River Ridge in Charlestown. This expansion represents a significant investment in the region, bringing additional job opportunities and reinforcing River Ridge’s reputation as a hub for advanced technology and logistics.
 
Toby Booker, General Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility at CTDI, highlighted the importance of their partnership with the River Ridge Development Authority, stating:

Overall, River Ridge had a banner year with private construction investments topping $138.2 million, adding approximately 3.9 million square feet of commercial and industrial space. River Ridge has maintained a high level of activity, drawing 95 requests for proposals and hosting 25 on-site visits from prospective businesses considering the park for future investment.
 
River Ridge’s economic contributions also extend to state and local governments, with business activity generating $49.4 million in tax revenue and wages from these operations and contributing $933.9 million in total labor income.
 
A summary of Policy Analytics’ report for 2024 includes the following highlights:
  • The River Ridge Commerce Center produced $3.04 billion in economic output throughout Southern Indiana.
  • Business activity generated $49.4 million in total tax revenue for state and local entities.
  • Businesses that call River Ridge home expanded their employment footprint to include 19,471 jobs.
    • 12,675 employed individuals onsite; and
    • 6,796 regional jobs supported.
  • RRDA continued to expand infrastructure, providing $6.7 million in new roads and another $8.9 million in improved utilities.
  • Private construction of $138.2 million in 2024 is estimated to bring an additional 3.9 million square feet once completed.

First Fridays Return to Downtown New Albany for 2025

NEW ALBANY, IN (March 21, 2025) – Downtown New Albany is set to come alive with art, entertainment, and community connection as First Fridays return for the 2025 season. Running from April through September, these monthly celebrations will highlight the city’s thriving arts scene while inviting residents and visitors to explore more than 100 artists’ works, multiple galleries, and a diverse mix of bars, restaurants, and boutiques, all within a walkable district with ample free parking.

Held on the first Friday of each month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., businesses throughout Downtown New Albany will open their doors to feature local artists, live entertainment, and special promotions. These events create a vibrant, welcoming space where creativity and commerce intersect, strengthening the local economy and cultural scene.

A Special Kentucky Oaks Day First Friday

This year, the May 2 First Friday will take place as a daytime event in recognition of Kentucky Oaks Day, adding a fresh twist to the tradition and offering an exciting way to kick off Derby weekend.

Louisville Zoo Seeks Photos and Memories for Upcoming Celebration

Rescheduled to April 19th and 20th due to weather.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 24, 2025) – The Louisville Zoo is calling on the community to share their cherished memories of beloved elephants, Mikki and Punch, as it gears up for a special two-day celebration honoring the iconic duo on April 5 and 6.

These all-day events will include special keeper talks and interactive activities to celebrate the elephants’ time at the Zoo. Later this spring, the Zoo will bid them farewell as they prepare to embark on their next adventure at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, TN.

The Zoo needs the community’s help to create an unforgettable tribute to Mikki and Punch. Zoo fans are asked to submit their favorite photos and memories of Mikki and Punch throughout their years at the Zoo. Punch arrived in 1973, and Mikki arrived in 1987. Survey results show a spike in support for Southern Indiana tourism and development

Southern Indiana (March 26, 2025) – Residents of Indiana’s Clark and Floyd counties agree that tourism is good for the local area according to the latest Resident Sentiment Survey conducted by Longwoods International in November 2024. SoIN Tourism last commissioned the survey in 2021.
 
Of those surveyed in 2024, 85% agreed that overall, tourism is good for their local area, a 10-point increase from when the survey was conducted in 2021. Additionally, 72% of respondents agree that the area benefits from a strong tourism industry, and 65% of respondents disagreed with the statement that tourism development is happening too fast in this area.
 
The positive sentiment toward tourism has not only increased locally but is significantly more positive than the national average. Only 58% of U.S. respondents agreed with the statement that their local area benefits form a strong tourism industry. Only 52% of Midwest respondents agreed.
 
“The results of the latest survey confirm to us that there’s an appetite for tourism growth in Southern Indiana,” said SoIN Tourism Executive Director Jim Epperson.
 
Results also show a high level of pride in SoIN tourism offerings – 70% of respondents said they were proud of what Clark and Floyd counties offer tourists. And 83% agreed they were interested in tourism news.
 
“When residents have a high level of pride and interest in tourism, it makes it a lot easier to attract businesses and talent to grow the community,” Epperson said.
 
Results from the survey also help identify areas of opportunity, such as bringing more festivals to Southern Indiana and raising awareness of tourism-related careers. Results will also help SoIN Tourism and city partners get ahead of community concerns, like ensuring residents have more input on future developments and informing conversations around short-term rental regulations.

Long-time River Ridge Executive Director Sets Retirement Date

After 17 years at the helm of the Midwest’s Premier Commerce Center, Jerry Acy will retire June 30
Jeffersonville, IN – The River Ridge Development Authority (RRDA) announced today that Jerry Acy, Executive Director, will retire from his position on June 30, 2025.   Acy has worked with River Ridge since 2008, coming in as the organization’s second Executive Director.  With Acy at the helm, the River Ridge Commerce Center transformed from abandoned buildings and overgrown property left by the US Army into a commercial and industrial destination, shaping Southern Indiana’s economic development landscape for decades to come.
 
Dr. Treva Hodges, Chair of the RRDA Board of Directors and Mayor of Charlestown, stated “Under Jerry’s leadership, River Ridge has assumed its place as the one of the nation’s premier business and industrial parks.  He joined the organization in 2008 as the surrounding communities were still envisioning the potential of River Ridge, and today we are well on our way to fulfilling the promises of economic prosperity.  Jerry has helped the RRDA and many businesses calling Southern Indiana home, and this community has benefited enormously from his service.  We will miss his leadership.”
 
Acy’s time in Southern Indiana has seen significant growth at River Ridge.  The activities at the Commerce Center create an annual economic output in our region of just under $3.0 billion according to the 2024 Economic Impact Analysis, recently completed by Policy Analytics, LLC.  River Ridge is home to over 80 companies employing more than 12,000 employees, supporting almost $900 million in wages annually.  Those dollars are spent throughout the community, generating nearly $40 million in state income and sales tax revenues annually, and an additional $9.1 million in local income tax revenue.
 
The RRDA Board also announced that Marc Hildenbrand, P.E., will succeed Acy and will be promoted to the role of Executive Director on July 1, 2025.  Hildenbrand has served several roles with the RRDA, spending the last three years as Chief Director, Engineering and Operations.  
 
“We know that change can be challenging, but we truly have an incredible opportunity to continue building upon the foundation at River Ridge,” Dr. Hodges added.  “Marc’s leadership abilities will be paramount as the RRDA continues its work, and his experience with the staff, infrastructure needs and company recruitments will serve us well in the future.”
 
“For the last 17 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed serving the businesses, organizations, and residents of our communities in my role at River Ridge,” Acy said.  “The team I have been able to work for and with is truly second-to-none in serving our businesses and communities with passion and foresight.  I know I am leaving the organization in good hands, and I will be watching as Marc and the RRDA team continues to build River Ridge as a regional asset serving all of Southern Indiana.”

This new partnership provides a seamless pathway for students to continue their education locally, expanding access to high-quality business education without the need to relocate or travel to New Albany for classes. 

This innovative collaboration underscores both institutions’ shared commitment to fostering opportunities for students to advance their academic aspirations while meeting the region’s workforce needs.

This partnership ensures a smooth transition, maximizing credit transfers and making higher education more accessible and affordable. 

Beginning in the fall of 2025, faculty from the IU Southeast School of Business will teach two classes per semester at the Ivy Tech Madison facility, allowing students from Scott, Jennings, Jefferson, Ripley, and Switzerland counties in Indiana, as well as Trimble, Henry, and Carroll counties in Kentucky, to earn a prestigious IU Southeast business degree without leaving home.  

The IU Southeast business program is nationally accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a distinction held by only 5% of business schools worldwide. 

“The School of Business is excited to partner with Ivy Tech Madison on this endeavor,” said Dr. David Eplion, Dean of the IU Southeast School of Business. “Jefferson County and the neighboring counties in Indiana and Kentucky are an important part of our service region. This program will enable us to deepen our ties with the local community and allow residents to earn a four-year Indiana University degree without leaving home.” 

“Madison boasts a vibrant business ecosystem, and Ivy Tech is thrilled to partner with Indiana University Southeast to introduce their in-person bachelor’s degree program for aspiring professionals within our building,” said Dr. Amanda Harsin, Chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College–Madison. 

“I thought my educational journey had a limit and an associate degree would be as far as my age would allow me to go,” said Kristy Hay, a current business student at Ivy Tech Madison. “With this program, I can continue my education and improve my future career opportunities. I now have new goals for my future that wouldn’t even be a possibility if it weren’t for this partnership with IU Southeast. I think it’s an amazing program and will give students, like me, the chance to continue taking steps towards self-improvement and bigger, brighter futures.”
