Operation Parent exists to prevent adolescent and teen addiction, suicide, violence, and more by providing parents of school-aged children ages K-12 with comprehensive, self-published prevention education. The parent handbooks address 25 of today’s toughest parenting challenges, including anxiety, bullying, social media, vaping, marijuana, and more.

The parent handbooks are easy to access, up-to-date, visually appealing, and provide practical tips and advice. Operation Parent gives parents the tools and resources to help them at each stage of child development. The resources are designed to bridge the gap between the world parents grew up in and the world their kids are growing up in today. The visually appealing content helps parents “keep up” to “speak up” and have meaningful conversations with their children.

In addition to the handbooks, parents are encouraged to register for the free monthly webinars designed to allow parents to dig deeper into a particular issue, that mirrors the topics in the handbook and connect with a community of parents for support.

Impact in community: Helping parents navigate their parenting journey in a challenging and changing environment. We help prevent alcohol and drug abuse by educating and empowering parents with tools and resources to converse with their children about tough topics that can become precursors to addiction, suicide, and abuse.

Volunteer Opportunities: Work on special event projects, particularly the annual golf tournament and ball drop.

Southern Indiana Works (SIW) provides career, training, and business services to enhance the skills of individual jobseekers to meet the current and future demand of business. We accomplish this by designing, coordinating, and implementing innovative regional workforce initiatives and programs. We are dedicated to providing programs and services that meet the needs of the community and help individuals reach their full potential. Southern Indiana Works WorkOne Career Center offers 1-on-1 career guidance and counseling services, workshops, training services, opportunities, and hiring events for jobs seekers. We provide several customized business solutions designed to help employers attract and recruit employees for their business. SIW supports businesses through HR assistance, hiring events, labor market information, and training grants. We work with employers and job seekers on developing work-based learning opportunities, registered apprenticeships, occupational skills training, tech training and Code Louisville. Last year we served over 3,400 Hoosiers and 530 local businesses.

We have specific programs and services for Youth.  We offer Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) in five local high schools.  We are always looking for volunteers to help with guest speaking, workshops, internships & more. This program focuses is on supporting students so they graduate high school and are on a path to employment, education or training, or the military. We also support older youth with career services, workshops, training, and work experiences. We have impacted over 280 k-12 students & youth.  We offer so much for the community of southern Indiana, and we are here to help businesses and job seekers.

Youth Link Southern Indiana is a local youth-serving organization that provides academic support, mental health services, and basic needs resources. Youth Link Southern Indiana partners with all four school districts in Clark County and New Albany High School in Floyd County, providing support to 19 schools and 4,500 students through their vital programming. The organization’s focus is Linking Youth to Pathways of Success by removing barriers for students. Youth Link Southern Indiana was formerly known as Community in Schools in Clark County.

 

Youth Link provides a variety of programming through their school day services. Resource Coordinators provide 1-on-1 and small group tutoring, distribute Bare Necessities items, and oversee the 321 Read Program. The Bare Necessities program provides coats, shoes, hygiene products, and other basic needs to students. The 321 Read program matches a community volunteer with a struggling reader for a 1-on-1 weekly session. Youth Link Southern Indiana also partners with Centerstone Mental Health to provide licensed, clinical therapists to students in need at no cost.

 

Youth Link Southern Indiana provides programming outside of the school day. The 21st Century Community Learning Center sites offer after school academic and behavioral interventions for referred students grades 1-12. In addition to homework assistance and tutoring, students participate in a variety of enrichment activities. The Extended Day Learning Program (EDL) provides engaging and enriching before and after school care for elementary students in a nurturing environment.

Volunteer Opportunities: 321 Read matches a community volunteer with a struggling reader for a one-on-one weekly session of reading to and with the student. Each week, the student is given a new book of their own to take home and add to their home library. Once the student is matched with a “reading friend,” we make sure they have a volunteer to read with them for a full three years, from first through third grade, the most critical years for reading mastery.

Since 1998, New Life International, Inc.’s mission has been to provide safe water and deliver the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world. A very durable, yet cost-effective and simple-to-operate, water purifier was invented by Duvon McGuire that creates chlorine to disinfect water. One purifier has the capability of serving a school, orphanage, clinic, hospital or even an entire community.  In 2020, NLI began to expand its solutions by launching a cutting-edge Innovation Center that introduced automated water purification as well as wound healing, hand sanitation, and surface disinfection solutions.

We envision a world where all people have access to solutions that enhance physical and spiritual well-being.  To that end, our technology has been deployed to over 80 countries globally, including more than 4,000 of our flagship water purification systems. Missionaries, pastors, and church leaders who know of a need for our solutions come to our campus in Underwood, Indiana, for a free, one-day training on proper placement and installation. It is through these relationships that New Life International is able to bring hope and healing to the uttermost parts of the world.

Counties/regions serviced: Hope SI serves primarily Floyd & Clark Counties, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) serves Floyd, Clark, Scott, Washington & Jefferson County

Focus areas: Basic Needs-Human Services

Impact in community: We partner with 57 churches, MUW, Dare To Care and collaborate with similar nonprofits caring for our low-income population needing assistance. In 2022, we provided 17,565 services to the community. We distributed more than $955,000 in food through the pantry. We served 2092 unduplicated households with 88% of services in Floyd County. We helped 701 families with basic utility bills to avoid disconnection, assisted 628 families with rent/mortgage payments to avoid eviction, and with our IDVA grant, we were able to provide $41,000 in services to Veterans.  In 2022, we served 783 households for the first time ever; families that had not had to visit a food pantry or social service organization before.

Volunteer Opportunities: We offer many opportunities for volunteers at Hope Southern Indiana.  Through our RSVP program, we offer volunteer opportunities at 130 other organizations in 5 counties.

Impact in community: During the 22-23 school year our goal is to reach 50,000 students from the Greater Louisville/Southern Indiana Community.
