VACA Seeking Volunteer Advocates

NEW ALBANY, Ind. Today, Vulnerable Adult Care Advocates is looking for caring and compassionate individuals to volunteer as an advocate for senior citizens and incapacitated adults. Volunteers only have to commit to a minimum of two hours a month serving as a companion to an elderly individual.

VACA primarily serves patients at hospitals, long-term care facilities and medical facilities in Floyd County who need assistance making informed decisions about their medical, financial and legal circumstances to ensure their health, emotional and social needs are met.  Through VACA, a licensed guardian is appointed free-of-charge to a patient who needs immediate assistance.

Without an appointed or designated guardian, in most cases its up to the provider to authorize decisions on the patients’ behalf, but not always in their best interest. Through VACA, the guardian represents the patient and works with the medical or healthcare facility to make the best decisions for their long-term well-being or end-of-life decisions.
