Winners announced in Southern Indiana Business Awards

20th annual awards recognize excellence in local business and economic development

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - (May 15, 2008) – One Southern Indiana is pleased to announce winners in its 20th annual Southern Indiana Business Awards program. This annual event recognizes outstanding businesses and professionals headquartered or located in Indiana’s Clark and Floyd Counties. The following winners were announced to a sold-out crowd at a luncheon in New Albany this afternoon:

1st Independence Bank Business of the Year (Less than 25 employees)
Michael Becht, Audiacom, Inc.

Nominees include Glenn Smith, Callistus Smith Agency, Inc. and Jennifer Yennes-Vizhnay, Carpet Corner, Inc.

Frost Brown Todd Business of the Year (25 or more employees)
• Wayne Estopinal, The Estopinal Group

Nominees include James Rickard, Your Community Bank and Dr. Jacqueline Riely, OB/GYN Associates of Southern Indiana


Insight Communications Rising Star Award (Companies in business five years or less)
• Denise Orwick & Laura Pfaffenberger, Precision Compounding Pharmacy

Nominees include Bob Hubbuch, Tow Zone Trailer & Equipment Sales, Inc. and Sylvia & David Amos, Sign makers, Etc., LLC


Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald Economic Impact Award
• Shirley Ohta, Chuck Moore, Rita Moore, & Hank Taylor, Eagle Steel Products, Inc.

Nominees include Pat Houghlin, Hitachi Cable Indiana, Inc.


Sam Day, Kightlinger & Gray Professional of the Year
• Doug Drake, Personal Counseling Service, Inc.

Nominees include Carol Dawson, EEO GUIDANCE, Inc. and Vaughan Scott, Smith Barney Investment Center at Your Community Bank

Six independent judges determined finalists from a pool of nominees in each category and selected winners based on the following criteria: business history, community involvement, response to adversity, newly-created opportunities, and innovation in products or services.

“Our members have shown that Southern Indiana is an exceptional place to do business,” said Tonya Fischer, Vice President of Operations for One Southern Indiana. “As the area’s premiere business association, we are energized by the companies and people that make this such a great place to work. It is highly gratifying to be able to honor some of the many members who support One Southern Indiana’s efforts throughout the year.”
